Tawous

Technique: Digital Painting (Pixel art) Size: 2000 x 2000 px Year: 2021 The ‘Tawous’ was a folklore Iraqi story my grandmother used to tell. After completing Kilim Design courses at the university and being in the midst of the Pixel art trend in NFTs, I decided to illustrate this fairy tale. The theme of this story is inspired by elements of Kurdish kilim designs. Although it is an Iraqi story, I integrated elements from both nations to create this project. The story began when the king of Babylon died from eating poisoned fish. Since he had only one daughter, she needed to marry a guy then she became the queen. Heralds spread the news, stating that whoever could catch the peacock of princess would be the next king of the land. The strong man and the merchant made efforts, but they failed. However, things were different for the farmer, as he patiently waited for the bird for three days and nights. With his patience, he successfully caught the bird. He married the princess and they lived happily ever after.
